Environment

Environmental and social responsibility is one of the five Danfoss Core Values and the work with living the values is highly prioritised. All factories with more than 20 production employees are required to become ISO 14001 certified and all Danish factories are required to become OHSAS 18001 certified. All factories, except the factory in Bulgaria and factories acquired from the beginning of 2006, are ISO 14001 certified.

Danfoss has production facilities in around 60 locations worldwide and, therefore, impacts the surrounding environment in the form of noise, waste, the emission of flue gases and waste water. It is Danfoss’ clear objective that nowhere in the world must the production result in an unacceptable impact on the environment. Furthermore, the environmental impact is required to decrease over time and lead to a reduction of the group’s overall impact on the surrounding environment.

Since the 1990s, Danfoss has had sharp focus on avoiding using substances and materials which could have a harmful effect on humans or the environment. The list of the unwanted substances is called the Negative List and it also applies to suppliers.

Throughout the group, training and awareness raising is carried out on an ongoing basis to ensure that the employees have the required basis for contributing to continuous improvements to environment and safety. In 2007, 32,900 hours of training within environment, safety and health were offered, an increase of 20% compared to the year before. Danfoss expects contractors and skilled craftsmen working in Danfoss’ factories and plants to meet standards regarding quality, working environment and environment similar to those at Danfoss. Prior to their assignments, all contractors and skilled craftsmen receive instructions in safety and environment, including the disposal of waste.

Corporate Citizenship

Danfoss’ overall goal within Corporate Citizenship is "keeping our own house in order".
This applies to employees, so that they have an attractive workplace and a healthy work-ing environment. It applies to the environment, where Danfoss products contribute to energy savings, and where the environmental impact of their production is constantly being reduced.
And it applies, in a broad sense, to social and ethical responsibility.
Efforts are continually being intensified, because when employee satisfaction is high, consumption of resources is as low as possible, and the company’s ethics and reputation are good, the result is a positive effect on the accounting bottom line.
